01 / THE FIRST CONVERSATION
Getting started.
Can BAO Health find a donor for me?
No. BAO Health does not find or provide donors for patients without one. You will need your own potential living donor to pursue the living-donor transplant pathway we support. For existing patient–donor pairs, we can help explore paired kidney exchange with other pairs to seek a more suitable match, subject to clinical assessment.
Can I start my assessment before travelling to Türkiye?
You can contact us from home to discuss your situation and the information needed for an initial medical review. The team will explain which consultations can take place remotely and which assessments require an in-person visit.
What happens after I return to my country?
Before you leave, your treating team sets out your follow-up plan. BAO Health helps coordinate continuing contact, requested reviews and communication with your local clinicians where appropriate. Remote consultations may be part of that ongoing support.
How do I take the first step?
Email us or start a WhatsApp conversation. Introduce yourself and tell us what kind of guidance you need. The team will explain the next steps and how to share any requested medical information.
02 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Donor evaluation & paired exchange.
Can you find a donor if I do not have one?
No. You need your own potential living donor for the living-donor transplant pathway we support. Our matching support is for existing patient–donor pairs; it is not a donor-finding service.
Is paired exchange only for incompatible pairs?
We can help explore whether an exchange could offer a more suitable match for an existing patient–donor pair. The clinical team reviews the individual circumstances and explains whether this is an appropriate option.
Does a proposed match mean we can proceed?
No. A proposed match needs clinical assessment and confirmation. Both people must understand the plan and make an informed, voluntary decision.
03 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Pre-transplant preparation.
Should we arrange new tests ourselves?
Contact the team first to understand which records and assessments are needed. Requirements depend on the patient, donor and proposed pathway.
When should we book travel?
Discuss the proposed schedule and outstanding assessments with the team before making arrangements. Plans may change as clinical review progresses.
Will my donor have separate preparation?
Yes. The donor has individual assessment, information and preparation needs. We help coordinate those steps alongside the patient’s pathway.
04 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Transplant & surgical care.
How long does a pre-transplant evaluation take?
A pre-transplant evaluation usually takes 2–3 days, but this can change depending on test results and any further assessments needed.
How long will I stay in hospital?
Donors usually stay for 2–3 days, and recipients for 5–6 days. The length of stay depends on each person’s recovery and the treating team’s assessment.
Will my family receive updates?
We help clarify points of contact and the communication plan. Updates follow patient and donor preferences and the hospital’s process.
05 / YOUR QUESTIONS
International patient support.
Do you support patients from the Balkans?
Yes. Türkiye and the Balkans are a particular focus. We also support patients and living donors travelling from Asia and Africa.
Can everything be completed remotely?
Initial conversations and some record reviews can start remotely. The clinical team explains which assessments and consultations require an in-person visit.
Do you arrange airport and hospital transfers?
Yes. We arrange airport and hospital transfers and coordinate health-related transport from pre-transplant evaluation through hospital discharge. Confirm your arrival details and care schedule with our team before travelling. Sightseeing and tourist excursions are outside this service.
06 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Recovery & follow-up.
Does follow-up include the donor?
Yes. Donors have their own recovery and follow-up needs. We support coordination for both people around their individual clinical plans.
Can follow-up continue after I leave Türkiye?
We help coordinate ongoing communication and, where appropriate, remote consultations and contact with your local clinicians. The treating team determines which reviews need an in-person visit.
Can I contact you if my transplant took place elsewhere?
Yes. Contact us to discuss your situation and how guidance or follow-up coordination may fit alongside your existing care team.
07 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Vascular access.
Is this service only for transplant patients?
No. You can contact us about dialysis vascular access assessment and care planning, whether or not you are currently exploring transplantation.
Can you review an existing access?
You can contact us to discuss review of an existing access. The team will explain which records and in-person assessments may be needed. For urgent concerns, contact your dialysis team or local emergency services.
Can my thrombosed AV fistula be reconstructed and become functional again?
Our main goal is to reconstruct existing AV fistulas and grafts and restore their function where possible. The specialist assesses the access and explains whether reconstruction is suitable for your situation.
